The Nottingham UK branch of Dr Sketchy's was established in August 2009.
Produced by burlesque performer Scarlett Daggers our events feature models from the world of cabaret, circus and drag.
Events are held on a Sunday afternoon, every other month, at The Canalhouse Bar in the city centre.
We welcome EVERYONE to come and try their hand at a bit of drawing in a fun, relaxed environment. Professional artists, art students, nervous beginners and 'haven't drawn in 30 years' folks, we welcome you all to Dr Sketchy's!
You will be treated to the unique opportunity to draw some of the UK's best performers and their dazzling and quirky costumes. As well as posing for your drawing pleasure our models perform live for your entertainment! We also have a DJ playing top tunes to entertain you as you draw and to keep the atmosphere light and fun.
Throughout the afternoon we ask our models to select their favourite drawings to win goodies from our prize table and we encourage them to look for effort and flair and not just technical ability!
Our sessions start with quick 1 and 2 minute poses to get everyone warmed up before going into longer 15 and 20 minute poses.
In a nutshell it's a life drawing session where entertainment meets art.
Dr Sketchy's was founded in 2005 in New York City by Molly Crabapple, an illustrator and former artist's model. Bored with the sterile classes she had paid for, Molly started Dr Sketchy's on the basis of fair pay for models and arty, decadent fun for all.
There are now over 150 Dr Sketchy's branches around the world, all adhering to the same ethos as Molly's original event but each run independently by artistic individuals, no two Dr Sketchy's branches are the same!
